NEW STILL LIFE PAINTINGS
These recent still lifes are very different from the intricate earlier paintings where my goal was careful observation and complication-each object pressed edge to edge against its neighbor-every inch filled with event. In order to disrupt that near-photographic realism, I've used a palette knife in and focused on the relationship of the subject to the space it inhabits. In each painting, a single vase holds its cargo of blossoms and exists in relation to the atmosphere that surrounds it.
